The Gold Museum collects, conserves and interprets the mining, social, cultural and environmental heritage of the Ballarat region. The museum is part of the Sovereign Hill Museums Association.
The Gold Museum extends Sovereign Hill’s story of Ballarat – a majestic provincial city built on the wealth derived from the great Australian gold rushes of the 1850s – and serves as Ballarat’s social and cultural history museum.
The Gold Museum is supported by the Victorian Government through Arts Victoria.
Sovereign Hill Outdoor Museum and Gold Museum, Ballarat have both been accredited under the Museums Australia (Victoria) Museum Accreditation Program since 1996.
